2013 Summer Academy Registration
Description
In 2013, six 2-day regional Summer Academies will take a classroom focus on advancing instruction for the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards. Participants attending each academy will select a single two-day workshop from a menu of choices to probe deeply into the instructional shifts necessary to implement the standards. All sessions will emphasize hands-on activities, collaboration, and cross content-area integration. By the end of each academy, participants will walk away with ideas and materials that can be embedded into their instruction for the coming school year.
The cost of attending is $200 per person for the two-day academy. Costs include the professional development, as well as breakfast, lunch and a snack each day.

Participants
The 2013 Summer Academies, while having something to offer for virtually all staff, will significantly focus on classroom implementation of College and Career Ready Standards. The two-day sessions described on the Workshops Offered page will include hands-on practical activities that educators can learn from and take back to the classroom. It is highly recommended that all participants carefully review these descriptions before registering to make sure the sessions they are signed up for are what they want.
Registration
To register for the conference or edit registrations, you will need to login to the Registration page. From this page, you can either login in using a previously created Summer Academy user account or create a new account. A single user (login) can register multiple participants for the Summer Academies and can go back later to edit their own registrations. Instructions for registering can be found on the Registration Instructions page.
You may also want to open in a separate window and/or print the descriptions on the Workshops Offered page for reference as you complete registration. On the registration pages, the workshop titles will be available to select from, but not the more detailed descriptions.
Notes:
1. KSDE reserves the right to cancel any locations if enrollments are not sufficient to support them. Every attempt will be made to give notice to those affected in time to change to a different location, but no later than 2 weeks prior to the scheduled academy.
2. KSDE cannot accept cancellations from participants less than one week prior to a scheduled academy because final plans (meals, presenters, etc.) must be made, and any registrations cancelled within that window will still be billed.
What to Bring
- Laptop/Handheld Computers, preferably one for each participant.
- Any hard copies of the standards or other documents that you might want to have available.
Tentative Agenda
The following is a tentative agenda and is subject to modification prior to the start of the summer academies. The beginning and ending times are likely to remain the same, but details may change. Breakfast is scheduled to begin at 8 am each day.
Sample Academy Structure:
Participants will need to be registered for a specific workshop and they will be in that workshop for the entire two-day academy, other than the opening session.
