The Kansas State Department of Education will be conducting a training session on July 12, 2013, to qualify individuals to be a special education due process hearing officer in Kansas. Participants must be licensed attorneys in good standing.
To initially qualify as a special education due process hearing officer or review officer, a person must meet the following requirements:
- Be a licensed attorney in good standing with the licensing agency in the state in which the person is licensed to practice law;
- have passed a written examination prescribed by the state board concerning special education laws and regulations;
- have completed a program sponsored or approved by the state board concerning due process hearing procedures and the role and responsibilities of a due process hearing officer; and
- have passed a written examination prescribed by the state board concerning due process proceedings.
The training session on July 12 will satisfy the requirement in Section (C), above, and will prepare the participants to successfully complete the written examinations required in Sections (B) and (D), above.
The training session will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. on July 12, 2013, with one hour for lunch on your own. It will be held in Topeka at the Kansas State Department of Education, at 120 SE 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66612. There is no cost for this training session, and we are applying for CLE credits.
