Drug & Alcohol Reasonable Suspicion Training for CDL Supervisors

The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas State Department of Education School Bus Safety Unit are offering Reasonable Suspicion Training for CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Supervisors. This training is federally mandated for all individuals who supervise individuals required to have a CDL as a condition of their employment.

If your school district or school bus contractor operates a school/activity bus that requires the driver to have a CDL, and you supervise that driver, you are required by federal law to have Reasonable Suspicion Training for supervisors.

Federal Regulation, 49 CFR 382.603 requires schools/employers to provide this training to all persons who supervise CDL drivers subject to drug & alcohol testing. The purpose of this training is to enable supervisors to determine whether reasonable suspicion exists to require a driver to take a drug test and or alcohol test. This regulation requires the training to include at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse and 60 minutes on controlled substances use.

This training is designed to meet this mandated training requirement. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. This training is a one-time training requirement. If you are required this training, and have had this training in the past, and have documentation you do not need to attend.

However, any school district/contractor employee is welcome to attend even if you have had the training in the past. If you are a Kansas school district employee or a Kansas school bus contractor or contract employee, and are not required this training, you are welcome to attend also.

This training is being offered free of charge to any Kansas school district employee or any Kansas school bus contractor on the following date and location:
