The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas.
Assessment Preconference, Monday, November 4
The preconference featured speaker will be Dr. Jim Pellegrino. Dr. Pellegrino, who will present on the “Next Generation of Assessments,” is co-director of Learning Sciences Research Institute, Liberal Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor and Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His research and development interests focus on children’s and adult’s thinking and learning and the implications of cognitive research and theory for assessment and instructional practice. Much of his work focuses on analyses of complex learning and instructional environments, including those incorporating powerful information technology tools. The goal is to better understand the nature of student learning and the conditions that enhance deep understanding. A special concern of his research is the incorporation of effective formative assessment practices, assisted by technology, to maximize student learning and understanding.
Following Dr. Pellegrino’s presentation, Ms. Mary Matthew will provide annual test security training for participants. Prior to lunch, Ms. Marianne Perie, co-director of the Center for Educational Testing and Evaluation (CETE), will provide an update on the 2014 state assessments. In the afternoon, there will be two-hour break-out sessions, which will include the following areas:
- DLM and accessibility
- CETE Demos (ELA/Math transition test, KITE, iPads) and Q&A
The last session of the day will be training for new test coordinators.
The target audience for the preconference includes Test Coordinators, Curriculum Coordinators, Administrators and Teachers who are interested in formative assessments.
