The KSDE Annual Conference focuses on school improvement and the continuous improvement of academic performance for all students. The theme for this year's conference, Kansas Children...Kansas' Future will showcase Kansas school success stories as well as address some of our schools' most significant challenges for the future. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas.  Conference registration includes breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.

Online registration closes after October 19, 2015. Walk-in registrations will be accepted.

Assessment Preconference - October 26, 2015

Preconference focuses on state assessments. The information is directed at Test Coordinators, Curriculum Directors, Special Education Directors, Principals and Teachers who manage and administer the assessments.

The morning will begin with a session for New Test Coordinators followed by Test Security and Ethics training provided by Mary Matthew of the Olathe school district.

After a short break, KSDE personnel will provide an overview of state assessments for the 2015-2016 school year.

Following lunch, breakout sessions are planned for mathematics, ELA, science, history/government, ELPA21, and cPass.

Main Conference - October 27-28, 2015

Opening Keynote Speaker - Sean McComb

Sean McComb
    2014 National Teacher of the Year

  • Sean McComb is a 9-year educator working at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts in Baltimore County, MD.
  • At Patapsco, Sean teaches students English and has implemented, led, and taught students in the AVID College Readiness program.
  • Ninety-eight percent of Patapsco's last four graduating classes of AVID students, nearly-all first generation college students and the vast majority from low-income or impoverished families who entered high school with average academic achievement, have been accepted to a four-year college or university.
  • Sean has also coached, led system-level curriculum writing teams, and implemented an innovative professional learning system for BCPS and instructed as an adjunct at Towson University.

Closing Keynote Speaker - Reginald Love
 Mr. Reginald Love     Partner and Vice President, Transatlantic Energy Group
  • Reggie Love served as personal aide to President Obama from 2007-2011, starting during the Obama for America campaign. 
  • Reggie was responsible for assisting with the coordination and completion of the President's daily schedule as well as coordinating with other offices to set up long and medium range planning.
  • Reggie graduated from Duke University in 2004, majoring in Political Science and Public Policy; History minor.
  • He also was captain of the Men's Basketball team and started for the Football team, which he led in receiving for 3 seasons.
  • He also is a graduate of Wharton Business School– Spring 2013
  • Reggie moved to the District of Columbia in 2006 to work for then Senator Obama after short stints in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers.
