The KSDE 30th Annual Conference focuses on school improvement and the continuous improvement of academic performance for all students. The theme for this year's conference, Kansans CAN: Ignite! The conference will showcase Kansas school success stories as well as address some of our schools’ most significant challenges for the future.

The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency and Century II Convention Center in Wichita, Kansas. Conference registration includes breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.

This year, we are using SCHED for our conference program. Please set up an account and personalize your schedule by selecting the sessions you want to attend. Contact Tierney Kirtdoll if you have any questions.

Payment must be received prior to the conference.  

An invoice will be sent electronically within 7-10 days.

Credit card payments are now accepted. Service fees apply. 
  • Each invoice will have a unique Payment Portal link for sending payment by credit or debit;

  • Payment can only be sent via the link provided on the invoice; and

  • At this time, we CANNOT receive a single payment for multiple invoices.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY:

Cancellations made in writing up to 10 days prior to the event date receive a full refund.

Cancellations made within 10 days of the event date receive no refund, and unpaid fees will be billed to the attendee and/or attendee's school/organization.

No-shows are ineligible for a refund. 

Substitutions can be made at any time without penalty.


 

    
 

 

 

Preconference - October 28, 2019

The preconference is dedicated to School Redesign. You will hear from redesign schools about their journey through the process and how they have changed their schools to better meet the needs of their students. Sessions will focus on the four redesign principles- Student Success Skills, Personalized Learning, Community Partnerships, and Real World Experiences-with a balance between pedagogy, process and practice.

 

Main Conference - October 29-30, 2019

The main conference will feature opening and closing keynote speakers, comments from Commissioner Watson, 60 breakout sessions with a variety of presentation styles reflecting 12 conference strands, 80+ exhibitor booths, success showcase schools, and much more. 

The main conference will feature 60 breakout sessions organized around the Kansas State Board of Education outcomes and School Redesign principles:

Keynote Presentations

Opening Keynote: Jimmy Casas

 Jimmy Casas

Jimmy Casas served twenty-two years as a school leader, including fourteen years as Principal at Bettendorf High School. Under his leadership, Bettendorf was named one of the Best High Schools in the country three times by Newsweek and US News & World Report. 

Jimmy was named the 2012 Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year and was selected as one of three finalists for NASSP 2013 National Secondary Principal of the Year. In 2014, Jimmy was invited to the White House to speak on the Future Ready Schools pledge. Jimmy is also the author of four books, “What Connected Educators Do Differently,” “Start. Right. Now. - Teach and Lead for Excellence,” the best-selling book “Culturize – Every Student. Every Day. Whatever it Takes,” and his latest release, “Stop. Right. Now. – The 39 Stops to Making Schools Better.”

Jimmy currently serves as an adjunct professor for Drake University, teaching courses in educational leadership. Finally, he is the owner and CEO of J Casas & Associates, an educational leadership company aimed at organizing and providing world class professional learning services for educators across the country,

 

Closing Keynote: Dr. Joe Sanfelippo

 Dr. Joe Sanfelippo

Dr. Joe Sanfelippo is the Superintendent of the Fall Creek School District in Fall Creek, WI. The Fall Creek School District was named an Innovative District in 2016 and 2017 by the International Center for Leadership in Education. He holds a BA in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, a MS in Educational Psychology, a MS in Educational Leadership, and a PhD in Leadership, Learning, and Service. Joe has taught Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, and 5th Grade. He has served as a principal in suburban and rural Wisconsin.

Joe co-authored The Power of Branding: Telling Your School’s Story, Principal Professional Development: Leading Learning in a Digital Age, and Hacking Leadership: 10 Ways Great Leaders Inspire Learning That Teachers, Students, and Parents Love. He was selected as 1 of 117 Future Ready Superintendents in 2014 and 1 of 50 Superintendents as a Personalized Learning Leader in 2016 by the US Department of Education. He was named 1 of 5 K-12 Administrators to watch in 2018 by Education Dive.
