Preconference - October 15, 2018
Mark your calendars! This year, as part of the KSDE Annual Conference, the preconference on October 15 is completely dedicated to Kansas Redesign! The purpose of this day is for educators from around the state to learn from the Mercury schools, who will be in the beginning stages of launching their redesign plans. In addition to panel discussions and Q & A with Mercury teachers and administrators, breakout session topics include:

· Personalized Learning Overview
· Social Emotional Growth
· Project Based Learning Overview
· Building Teacher Leadership
· Parent/Community/Business Partnerships
Main Conference - October 16-17, 2018
A variety of breakout sessions will be offered during the Main Conference. Conference strands are organized around the Kansas State Board of Education outcomes: Social-Emotional Growth, Kindergarten Readiness, Individual Plans of Study, High School Graduation Rates, Postsecondary Completion/Attendance and Assessment.
The Opening Keynote speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 16 is Thomas C. Murray. As a presenter and author, Mr. Murray is one of the top thought leaders in the education world. A tireless advocate for digital education and personalized learning, he is the Director of Innovation for Future Ready Schools(r), a project of the Alliance for Excellent Education, located in Washington DC.
Tom serves as the Director of Innovation for Future Ready SchoolsⓇ, a Project of the Alliance for Excellent Education, located in Washington, D.C. He has testified before the United States Congress and works alongside that body and the US Senate, the White House, the US Department of Education and state departments of education, corporations, and school districts throughout the country to implement student-centered, personalized learning while helping to lead Future Ready SchoolsⓇ and Digital Learning Day. Murray serves as a regular conference keynote, was named the “2018 National/Global EdTech Leader of the Year,” the “2017 Education Thought Leader of the Year,” one of “20 to Watch” by NSBA, and the “Education Policy Person of the Year” by the Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015. Dr. Buddy Berry, Principal, Eminence Independent Schools (Eminence, KY), will provide the closing keynote on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Dr. Berry has a passion for reinventing the K-12 school experience. The Eminence Independent school district has redesigned its instructional experience for kindergarten through Grade 12 with its Framework of Innovation for Reinventing Education model using online, blended and competency-based education in its quest to be the Disney World of Schools.
Dr. Buddy Berry has a passion for reinventing the K-12 school experience. His School on FIRE (Framework of Innovation for Reinventing Education) model is currently in its seventh full year of implementation and is seeing dramatic results. Dr. Berry is in his 9th year as Superintendent of Eminence Independent Schools and his team’s success has allowed him to be invited to the White House twice, the first as one of the 100 top school Superintendents in America at their only National Connected Superintendents Summit. Dr. Berry’s work and school district has also been the focus of numerous media and news stories including being recently filmed by Edutopia (George Lucas Films) for a recently released video series. Most importantly, Buddy is married to the amazing Jessica Berry and the father of four, Brooke, Blaze, Bryce, and Brax.
