Canceled until Fall 2018

Teaching Social Emotional Skills in Family and Consumer Sciences Education

Date: June 6, 2018 (9:00 - 3:30)

Location: Liberal High School (1611 W 2nd Street, Liberal KS 67901

Registration: $30.00 (includes lunch)

This event will begin with a review of the Social, Emotional and Character Development (SECD) standards and how connected FCS is to the “social emotional learning” KSDE initiative and lead us into a deep dive discussion related to teaching in a culturally diverse classroom.  As a side note, this work can help with your schools accreditation documentation.

FCS teachers from middle through high school are strongly encouraged to attend as we as Kansas FCS teachers really look at how we teach students social, emotional and relationship education.  Dr. Debra Bolton, KSU Research and Extension from Garden City, KS will be our keynote. She will lead our discussion on sensitivity as it relates to teaching youth about relationships, health and wellness when their backgrounds are different than our own as well as share projected challenges to Kansas related to changing demographics that will likely impact our classroom instruction

You don't want to miss this!

For those traveling in on June 5th, we will make special dinner plans to relax and build our relationships with each other.
